🛰 Mission Type: Communications – Starlink broadband constellation deployment
Mission Overview & Payload Insight
The Starlink Group 6-98 mission will deploy another batch of Starlink V2-mini satellites into low Earth orbit as part of SpaceX’s second-generation global broadband network. These satellites are designed to significantly improve network capacity, resiliency, and performance as Starlink continues scaling worldwide service.
Key payload characteristics include:
-
Advanced phased-array antennas enabling high throughput and dynamic beam steering
-
Electric propulsion (Hall-effect thrusters) for efficient orbit raising, station-keeping, and collision avoidance
-
Improved constellation density, helping reduce latency and increase reliability
-
Possible inclusion of Direct-to-Cell capability, supporting future satellite-to-mobile connectivity in areas without terrestrial coverage
After stage separation, the Falcon 9 first stage is expected to attempt recovery on an Autonomous Spaceport Drone Ship (ASDS) in the Atlantic Ocean, continuing SpaceX’s high-cadence reuse strategy.
