National Space Society

Advocating for a Spacefaring Civilization

The National Space Society (NSS) is an independent, international nonprofit organization committed to advancing humanity’s presence in space. Founded through the merger of the National Space Institute (1974) and the L5 Society (1975), NSS has been a leading voice in space advocacy since 1987. As a 501(c)(3) educational and scientific organization, NSS champions the development of a spacefaring civilization through public education, grassroots efforts, and policy engagement.

With over 50 chapters worldwide, NSS unites space enthusiasts, professionals, and advocates dedicated to expanding space exploration and settlement. The society publishes Ad Astra, an award-winning magazine covering the latest breakthroughs and missions shaping our future in space.

NSS is proud to be a member of the Independent Charities of America and a participant in the Combined Federal Campaign. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law and support both educational initiatives and limited legislative advocacy under the 501(h) election.
