Sands Space History Center

Blast Off to the Past on Florida’s Space Coast!

Just outside the south gate of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, there’s a place where space history comes to life — the Sands Space History Center. This free museum is perfect for anyone curious about rockets, space launches, and the history behind America’s space program.

You don’t need a base pass to visit, and it’s open to the public six days a week (closed on Mondays). There’s also a gift shop, restrooms, and a shady picnic area where you can relax and enjoy lunch.

A Closer Look at Space History

The center was once known as the Air Force Space and Missile History Center, and it tells the story of how we got to space. Each launch pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station has its own display, showing what missions happened there and the people who made them possible.

It’s named after Major General Harry J. “Bud” Sands Jr., who helped make the museum happen. His goal? To make sure the story of space exploration inspires people for generations to come.
